National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS)
Lessons Learned
Ensure that the national coalition doesn't compete with member organizations
NOYS has found that it can be challenging to ensure the collaboration's outreach and programming doesn't overlap with the work of the involved organizations. NOYS has worked hard to ensure its sustainability without competing for funding with its member organizations. One way it has done this is through partnerships and connections with business leaders.
Dedicated staff helps to drive sustainable large-scale programming with limited numbers
Trying to take on large-scale programming can be difficult with a small staff. Having highly dedicated staff helps NOYS to be “lean and mean” and get a lot done despite having a small staff. They have found that the key to attracting and sustaining these staff members is creating a passion for the cause through meeting and building relationships with the youth and families impacted by the youth health and safety issues that the collaboration addresses.
