National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS)
About the Collaboration
NOYS began after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) showed an interest in creating a collaboration between nonprofit groups that received funds for youth traffic safety.
Initial groundwork occurred at the National Organizations for Youth Traffic Safety Collaboration Meeting held February 8, 1994 in Washington, DC. At this meeting, groups were brought together to see how they could work together to reach more youth and limit duplication of effort.
NOYS currently has a coalition of over 60 national member organizations reaching 80 million youth and adults.
Membership in NOYS has grown consistently, and new members are typically recruited and incorporated through mutual contacts.
Since its inception, NOYS has worked to involve youth in leadership roles and enhance leadership opportunities for youth.
