Collaboration Model
Partners in the WYDPLS contribute in three primary ways: trainer, funder, and thought partner--all partners fall into this last category.
- DYO, WCAC/YouthWorks, and Santander Bank, along with DCU Bank and People’s United Bank all provide training during the summer symposium that supports social and emotional skill development of youth workers and youth who plan to work. In Summer 2019:
- DYO offered 32 hours of trauma-informed training to 110 youth who have been hired to staff the Recreation Worcester summer programming. Its Youth Worker Training Handbook focuses on developing social and emotional competencies as defined by The Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning.
- WCAC/YouthWorks offered 18 hours of pre-employment training, along with 6-7 weeks of meaningful paid work experience, and daily supervision and support for 294 youth who have been placed in summer employment programs sponsored by Mass Hire. It uses the Signal Success curriculum, a comprehensive curriculum designed and tested by education and workforce development partners to help young people develop essential skills for future success.
- Santander Bank, DCU Bank, and People's United Bank offered financial literacy training to all 404 youth who are enrolled in either the DYO or YouthWorks training. Coaches who conduct the financial literacy workshops participate in a train-the-trainer on cultural sensitivity.
- Mass Hire, Worcester Division of Public Health, DYO, and Santander Bank are currently the main funders of the Symposium.
