National Teen Driver Safety Week: 5 to Drive
Motor vehicle crashes are the number one killers of teens in America. That's why local and State highway safety and law enforcement organizations are teaming up with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) to launch a new National Teen Driver Safety Week campaign called “5 to Drive.” This parent education campaign is designed to challenge and encourage parents to talk it out with their teens and to regularly "set the rules before they hit the road."

- No cell phone use or texting while driving,
- No extra passengers,
- No speeding,
- No alcohol, and
- No driving or riding without a seat belt.
On www.safercar.gov/parents/teendriving you will find information on your State's licensing requirements for teens, as well as ideas and resources to help you lay the ground rules with an aspiring driver. You can find in-depth information on some of the most common safety problems novice drivers should avoid. Arm yourself with information on alcohol use and its consequences, the benefits of seat belt usage, and the growing problem of distracted driving.
