An Unlikely Partnership: Strengthening Families Touched by Incarceration
An Unlikely Partnership: Strengthening Families Touched by Incarceration is a film about the impact of incarceration on children and families. It is a story about how the most unlikely of partners can come together around a shared agenda for the safety and wellbeing of children and create remarkable results. Based on an innovative partnership in Washington State between the Department of Corrections and the Department of Early Learning, the film highlights how investment in strong, nurturing, parent-child relationships can also reduce recidivism and keep parents from reoffending.
An Unlikely Partnership is part of the “Building Community, Building Hope” (BCBH) film series, developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families' Children’s Bureau’s Office on Child Abuse and Neglect and its contractor, CANTASD, in collaboration with The Department of Expansion, a Los Angeles-based film production company. BCBH shows real-world collaborative partnerships working to ensure the safety and well-being of all children and families. In addition to the films, BCBH discussion guides are being developed to help viewers take action in their local communities.
